The stadium hosted the inaugural Xerox Limpopo Rugby Cup which featured the Blue Bulls against Lions. The Bulls won thanks to a 42-12 win in front of a cheering 30 000 crowd at this new venue, which is a 2010 World Cup stadium.
The same crowd turned out for the Peter Mokaba Cup which featured Absa Premiership champion SuperSport United, Kaizer Chiefs, Bidvest Wits and Danish outfit, Brondby IF a fortnight ago.
Ndavhe Ramakuela, director of 2010 Polokwane, said they were satisfied with the stadium and that the facility was now ready for a 45 000 full capacity crowd.
"We used these two events to test the stadium's readiness for major games and it passed the test nicely. We have also ensured that all safety and security measures are in place," said Ramakuela.
"We learnt a great deal from these two events in terms of logistics. We managed to signpost the stadium and parking areas. There was much improvement to the situation compared to the soccer tournament and I want to thank everybody who was involved in the planning."
Meanwhile, Bulls wing John Mametsa expressed happiness at playing in front of his home crowd. "It was a great feeling to play in front of my family, friends and former schoolmates," said Mametsa.
It was only his second official match in front of his home supporters since he turned professional a decade ago.
