Thanks, Tokyo, but no thanks

I WAS surprised to learn about an invitation to join the ANC by Cosatu's Zet Luzipho and Human Settlements Minister Tokyo Sexwale.

My response, which I wish to place on record, is a resolute no, thank you. I have been a member of the IFP since the party's inception in 1975 and I do not foresee a future for myself in any other organisation.

Given the differences between the ANC and IFP in terms of ideology, policy and culture, I could hardly be invited to "come home" to the ANC. For the record, I have never been an ANC member. I am under no illusion that this is an attempt by the ANC to sow discord in the ranks of political competition.

It is obvious the invitation was motivated by the ANC's pursuit of political hegemony rather than its declared love for women who are allegedly ill-treated in other political parties.
