Man held over rape of domestic

A 40-YEAR-OLD man has been arrested for allegedly raping his domestic worker at his home in Durban North.

It is alleged that the employer raped the 24-year-old worker on Monday while she was asleep at his home.

The woman, from Eastern Cape, had arrived at her employer's home in November last year after she had worked for his relatives in Cape Town.

Now without alternative accommodation, she is forced to remain in the house of her alleged rapist.

The woman told Sowetan the police had dumped her in her abuser's house after she was taken to hospital.

"I'm not sure whether I'm safe here. But there has been constant communication with the man's family.

"I'm not sure what will happen when he gets bail because the police left me here in his house," she said.

Police spokesperson Khephu Ndlovu said the man was arrested on Tuesday and would appear in the Durban magistrate's court today to face rape charges.
