Man arrested after his domestic is raped

A 40-YEAR-OLD man has been arrested for allegedly raping his domestic worker at his home in Durban North.

It is alleged that the employer raped the 24-year-old domestic worker while she was asleep at his home on Monday.

The woman, from Eastern Cape, arrived at her employer's home in November last year after she had worked for his relatives in Cape Town. Without alternative accommodation, the woman is now compelled to remain in the house of her alleged rapist.

The women told Sowetan that police dumped her at her abuser's home after taking her to hospital.

"I'm not sure whether I'm safe but there has been constant communication with the man's family. I'm not sure what will happen if he gets bail because the police left me here in his home," she said.

The woman said she had received support from her employer's family, who are said to be "fuming".

Sowetan has established that there has been an exodus of domestic workers who mysteriously only worked for the man for a few days before quitting.

Police spokesperson Khephu Ndlovu confirmed that a man was arrested on Tuesday.

"The incident occurred on Monday afternoon but we were only able to arrest the suspect on Tuesday afternoon."

Khephu said the man was expected to appear in the Durban magistrate's court today to face rape charges.
