The Phly One, as she is popularly known, will now be bringing that glamour to television, fulfilling a life-long ambition.
From Monday the Metro FM DJ will be the new face of Motswako , SABC2's women lifestyle programme.
Lebyane replaces Busi Mahlaba, a former air hostess and a women's magazine editor.
But Carol Bouwer Productions, owned by TV personality Carol Bouwer, has denied that Mahlaba was fired to make way for Lebyane, who speaks perfect Sepedi and Xitsonga, among other languages.
Last year there was a storm around Mahlaba, with viewers complaining that her Setswana was not up to scratch.
"Busi was not replaced. Her contract ran out and we have moved on, and so has Busi," Motswako content producer Thato Malebane said.
"Lebyane joins the show aiming to provide South African women with life skills that will enable them to take part in society as leaders and role models for the younger generation, and also take on South Africa's most pertinent issues that challenge our daily lives," the producers said.
Lebyane's debut show on Monday is titled Education, Opportunity and Crisis. She will interview Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga about issues bedevilling our education.
Lebyane told Sowetan yesterday: "It's a humbling experience. The thing is, I got into radio so that I would eventually get into TV.
"The 14 years I have put into the entertainment industry are now paying off.
"I have fallen and risen again. Motswako is a perfect show that deals with human issues. Whether these people are from rural or urban area, educated or not educated, is not an issue. Everyone is given a platform here. I am looking forward to this."
