RENOWNED South African athlete Mbulaeni "Bullet" Mulaudzi plans to start his 2010 campaign with a bang by winning the Scotland Invitation meeting on Saturday.
This will be his first appearance in this seasonal event, in which athletes compete for selected teams. Mulaudzi has been roped in to run for the Commonwealth team, which is made up of athletes from the former British colonies.
"It's a great honour to have been invited to be part of this prestigious event where some of the big names will compete," said Mulaudzi prior to flying out of the country.
"I have been training hard during the festive season holidays, there was no break for me. In fact, I rested only on Christmas and New Year's days.
"The plan is to start the season on a high note with a win to lay a solid foundation for the remainder of 2010, which is gonna be hectic because there are several global events. I just want this year to be the best season ever for me. I know people are expecting a lot from me after winning a gold medal at the World Championships in Berlin.
Mulaudzi was one of the three South Africans who won medals at the championships - the others being 800m star Caster Semenya and long jumper Khotso Mokoena - but he said that was now "water under the bridge". His main focus is the 2011 World Championships and 2012 London Olympics, he said.
