Cope expels Moshobane for 'spying for ANC'

THE Congress of the People in the Greater Letaba sub-region in Limpopo has deposed Benny Moshobane as its chairperson.

THE Congress of the People in the Greater Letaba sub-region in Limpopo has deposed Benny Moshobane as its chairperson.

Moshobane is accused of failing to attend sub-regional committee meetings and of being an ANC spy in Cope since he joined the party.

Moshobane was sent a letter on Sunday informing him of the termination of his duties as party chairperson.

This followed a decision taken during a sub-regional committee meeting at Mahekgwe village in Bolobedu.

Cope spokesperson in the area Charles Seale said members of the party's sub-regional committee alleged that Moshobane might have been deployed by the ANC to spy on their party.

"Moshobane was no longer attending Cope meetings and also had no respect for other members of the party," Seale said.

Moshobane's removal from Cope came into effect onMonday.

Seale said Moshobane, who was a top ANC member before he joined Cope more than a year ago, was allegedly seen in the company of senior ANC members lately and it is suspected that he was also planning to return to the ruling party.

Last week the ANC in the Mopani region called off a press conference to announce Moshobane's return to the ANC.

Approached for comment yesterday, Moshobane told Sowetan that he was not aware of the meetingheld to discuss his future because he had not been informed about it.

He said he had not yet received the letter but was aware that the sub-regional committee wanted an urgent meeting with him.

But, Moshobaneneither confirmed nor denied that he was returning to the ANC.

He said the media should wait until it was informed about his future political intentions.
