LUANDA - Angola's Afcon squad were awarded $150 000 (R1,14million) by a bank for their efforts, despite the tournament hosts losing to Ghana in the quarterfinals, state media said yesterday.

The bank presented the money to the Palancas Negras (Black Antelopes) at a branch in the capital Luanda.

Striker Flavio Amado from the Al-Shabad club in Saudi Arabia received $40 000 (R303 000) for scoring three goals in the Afcon, two against Mali and one against Malawi.

Manucho Goncalves from Spain's Real Valladolid and Felisberto Amaral of Egyptian giants Al-Ahly received $20 000 (R152 000) each for their goals.

Midfielder Jose Alberto and Portugal-based goalkeeper Carlos Fernandes were given $10 000 (R76 000) each and other members of the 23-strong squad split $50 000 (R379 000). - Sapa-AFP
