Bafana prepare for Zimbabwe

BAFANA Bafana will train at the new Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban tonight for the first time since it was built, to get a feel for the 2010 Fifa World Cup facility.

BAFANA Bafana will train at the new Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban tonight for the first time since it was built, to get a feel for the 2010 Fifa World Cup facility.

This will be in preparation for tomorrow's international friendly against Zimbabwe at the stadium at 8.30pm.

"Everybody is excited to play at a World Cup match venue, they are looking forward to this historic training session," said Bafana manager Sipho Nkumane.

The players are on cloud nine after hammering Swaziland 6-2 in a practice match at Chatsworth Stadium on Saturday.

"We could not have asked for a better start to our final preparations than winning our first match so impressively, the good thing is that that the players showed an appetite for goals and this is good for the team," Nkumane said yesterday.

"The failure to convert our chances into goals has been a cause for concern, but we are happy that things are beginning to shape up well for us.

"The majority of South Africans have been rightfully worried about our finishing, but I'm happy coach Carlos Alberto Parreira and his technical staff are perfecting it. We hope the appetite for goals will continue against Zimbabwe, who are one of the region's strongest teams."

Players featuring in the clash against Zimbabwe will earn caps, Nkumane said.

Youthful Chiefs striker Knowledge Musona has received his first-call up for the Zimbabwe senior team for tomorrow's game.

Other Amakhosi players in Zimbabwe's squad are Thomas Sweswe and Zhaimu Jambo, while Mamelodi Sundowns skipper Esrom Nyandoro will captain the team in the absence of England-based Benjani Mwaruwari.
