The Gauteng Department of Education is offering free preparatory classes to all matriculants who will write examinations in mathematics and physical science in February and March.
The classes will also be held in townships.
The deadline for registration has been extended to tomorrow for those who failed two subjects and want to sit for the supplementary exams.
"The lessons will prepare learners to sit for maths and physical science," a statement released by the department said. The intensive programme will include time management during an exam and how to deal with different kinds of questions.
"Learners will write mock two-hour exams, which will be reviewed by expert teachers and they will analyse past papers," the department said.
The classes start on Saturday and will run over four weekends before the maths exam on February 26.
"Maths and science will alternate on Saturdays and Sundays. The sessions will be from 9am to 2pm. Pupils should go to their old schools to find out where the exam centres are located.
"The Sci-Bono Centre in Newtown, Johannesburg, has set up a facility where learners can study for the maths and science exams every day. Maths and science teams will be on hand to help."
Centres for these mock exams will be in Soshanguve, Mamelodi, Atteridgeville, Hammanskraal, Winterveldt-Mabopane (all in Tshwane) Thembisa, Vosloorus, Katlehong, Thokoza, Etwatwa-Daveyton, Tsakane, Midrand, Soweto, Alexandra, Krugersdorp, Merafong, Sebokeng, Evaton, Sharpeville and Ratanda.
