They have arrested "kingpin" Donald Duma Sigasa, who is also alleged to have led a gang that robbed cash vans around the country.

The Hawks said yesterday that they wanted to see all members of the gang behind bars. Others were arrested last week.

Sigasa was surprised and cornered at his townhouse in Boksburg North, Ekurhuleni early on Saturday.

"It's four down and six to go," said Hawks spokesperson Musa Zondi.

He said a number of cellphones and SIM cards were found in Sigasa's possession. They were confiscated.

"The arrest at the weekend of Donald Duma Sigasa brings the team closer to their target of 10 most wanted cash robbery kingpins arrested in two weeks."

Zondi said the police were working closely with the Asset Forfeiture Unit.

He also said police had been helped by some of those who had been arrested.

Zondi said Sigasa had been positively linked to at least seven cash-in-transit heists dating back to 2001.

They include robberies in Mondeor, Johannesburg, in 2001, Tsakane (Ekurhuleni) in 2006, Thokoza (Ekurhuleni) in 2007, Boksburg North (Ekurhuleni) twice in 2007, Eersterus, in Pretoria, 2009 and Katlehong (Ekurhuleni) in 2009.

"Sigasa also escaped from lawful custody in 2002 from Witbank," Zondi said.

More cases might be added to his tally, including charges of attempted murder and armed robbery

"Sigasa is also linked to another mastermind whom the police want to interview, called Happy Mosia," he said.

Zondi said the police hoped that Mosia would give himself up soon, as the net was fast closing in on him.

On Friday the Hawks arrested alleged cash-in-transit kingpins Jethros "Malombo" Mthembu and Josia "MaSeven" Nkosi.

This was only three days after Moeketsi "Keke" Masike, suspected of involvement in nine cash heists, was nabbed in Fourways, Johannesburg.
