ESKOM will oppose the R85million lawsuit filed against it by ousted chief executive Jacob Maroga, the parastatal said yesterday.

"We are aware of it and we will oppose it," Eskom said.

According to Sunday Times, Maroga has filed a civil claim at the Johannesburg high court demanding "reasonable damages" or reinstatement.

He is suing his former employer, its acting chief executive and chairperson Mpho Makwana, and the Minister of Public Enterprises Barbara Hogan. He accuses the board of conspiring to fire him illegally under the veil of a voluntary resignation.

Both Maroga and former board chairperson Bobby Godsell left the parastatal amid controversy in November last year. - Sapa
