THE ANC in Gauteng says it will develop guidelines on how members should lobby for positions during the elections.

The ANC in Gauteng is to hold its provincial conference in May where new leadership will be elected.

Already there are reports of tensions between provincial chairperson Paul Mashatile and his deputy Nomvula Mokonyane.

Yesterday ANC provincial secretary David Makhura said the guidelines would be developed to ensure that lobbying for leadership "was conducted in line with values and traditions of the ANC".

Makhura said the guidelines would deal with issues such as individuals paying members for support.

Makhura said as part of its 2010 programme of action the ANC in Gauteng was to embark on campaigns to improve the quality of education, fight social crimes and improve health provision.
