POLICE at Etwatwa in Ekurhuleni have made another arrest in the investigation into missing councillor Godfrey Mbethe.

POLICE at Etwatwa in Ekurhuleni have made another arrest in the investigation into missing councillor Godfrey Mbethe.

Mbethe disappeared on July 22 last year.

Denis Zwane, 49, was arrested in Harrismith, KwaZulu-Natal, on Monday and appeared in the Benoni magistrate's court this week.

Investigating officer Captain Frikkie Steyn said they were closing in on the other suspects.

"I want to complete my investigation and am looking forward to more arrests," Steyn said.

Last week the first suspect, Vusi Twala, who was arrested on November 21 last year in Ladysmith, also in KwaZulu-Natal, appeared in the same court and was denied bail.

Police evidence linked him to Mbethe's disappearance thorough video footages from banks in Benoni, Vosloorus and fraudulent debit transactions on Mbethe's account at Eastgate Mall.

More than R22000 was withdrawn from Mbethe's account on the day he disappeared. - Katlego Moeng
