IF you mix baking powder and vinegar, you will get a rather interesting result - but don't try this at home!

The combination of the two substances produces lots of gas or bubbles. The acetic acid in the vinegar and the sodium bicarbonate in the baking powder combine to make carbonic acid, which likes to turn into carbon dioxide and water.

The carbon dioxide escapes into the air (the bubbles) because gas is light, and you are left with the water. - faqkids.com; wiki.answers.com; science-house.org
