TICKETS for Saturday's Cape Town Stadium Soccer Festival - featuring Ajax Cape Town and Santos - have been sold out.

Sales reached 20000, which is the number of tickets the organisers of the new 2010 Fifa World Cup Stadium decided to sell to test the readiness of the facility.

Hosted by the City of Cape Town, the tournament is organised by stadium operators Sail Stadefrance and sponsored by Virgin Active Health Clubs and MTN.

The 68000-seat stadium, built from scratch to the tune of R4,5billion, was handed to the city last year by the builders.

Ajax Cape Town attacking midfielder Thulani Serero, who is in Durban on camp with Bafana Bafana, said they were excited to be part of the historic occasion.

"Most of us have already inspected the stadium, it's a wonderful, world-class facility that will rock the people of the world," Serero said.

Ajax chief executive George Comitis said: "We are delighted to be part of such a prestigious and historic occasion for Cape Town and it is fitting that we should be taking on our great rivals at the opening of this wonderful stadium.

"We always enjoy playing Santos and are looking forward to another keenly contested friendly match."

Santos boss Goolam Allie said: "We have a keen rivalry, but one that is built on mutual respect. There have been some fantastic matches down the years, which have been a credit to Cape football. We aim to put on a good show at the Cape Town Stadium Soccer Festival as well."
