FAMOUS urban pop group Gang of Instrumentals are starting the new year on a high note. The popular group will perform at the Lyric Theatre at Gold Reef City in Johannesburg on Saturday January 23.

Fans will be able to enjoy numbers such as Shake it, Oh Yeah, My Number One and Woza December .

With just a few years in the music industry, Gang of Instrumentals is quickly making a remarkable name for themselves.

The Johannesburg-based group consists of Tumi Masemola, Mandla Ndimande and Bongo Riot Zungu.

Their music, which has earned them a substantial following, is a mixture of hip-hop, street rap, pop, soul, R&B, ragga, reggae and rock, with elements of kwaito as well as house.

Their third offering, Round 3, is a balanced mix of vocally challenging songs that truly showcase this extraordinary group's artistic ability to create fresh new sounds by merging soul and hip-hop with a reggae undertone that appeals to all ages and races. It was released in 2008.

Their second album, Salute , released in the middle of 2006 , is receiving massive airplay . The catchy lyrics are in the African languages as well as in English.

Founded in 2002, Gang of Instrumentals' first album, Kassie Flava, wasreleased in 2004. It did well and helped popularise the group.

Since then their popularity has continued to rise and they won the coveted Best Urban Album at the South African Music Awards (Sama) for 2009.

Tickets for the show at the Lyric Theatre cost R50 and are available through Computicket or the Gold Reef City Casino box office.
