Nene, who is from a poor home, attended Menzi High School. She achieved distinctions in English, IsiZulu, accounting, business studies, economics, mathematics, life orientation and a B in mathematics paper three.
Ithala development bank has offered her a R85000 bursary a year for three years to study for a BCom degree. The bursary will cover accommodation, tuition fees and books. On completion of her studies the bank will offer her a job.
Jeenah supermarket will also give groceries worth R1000 a month for a year to her family, while the eThekwini municipality has offered to build a house for the family .
The bursary was handed to her by Minister for Women, Children and Persons with Disability Noluthando Mayende-Sibiya, local ANC leadership and Ithala bank chief executive Sipho Shabalala.
