Roads boss resigns over tender issue

A SENIOR official in the Limpopo department of roads and transport - under suspension after being charged with misconduct - has resigned.

Saracen Mojapelo, who was acting general manager for roads and infrastructure, was placed on precautionary suspension on November 16 last year pending investigations into alleged misconduct. He was accused of failing to issue tenders from the department.

This was after the department had found that only 2percent of R219million was spent on the Extended Public Works Programme for this financial year.

Mojapelo has now tendered his resignation, which the department accepted.

Departmental head Ntau Letebele said yesterday that Molatelo Rapetsoa would replace Mojapelo - and that his immediate task would be to ensure the fast-tracking of service delivery.

"Rapetsoa will also oversee the work of the project management unit, which was appointed to assist the department to manage roads infrastructure projects."

In December last year Diphoko Mahango, the department's general manager for corporate support, resigned after allegations of corruption.
