TRADE union Solidarity has welcomed the announcement by the provisional liquidators of the Pamodzi Gold group that investigations into the collapse of the company will resume shortly.

The levels of forensic investigation - Section 417 and 418 - were only carried out in terms of the Companies Act in exceptional cases, the union said yesterday.

These cases included those where the liquidators suspected irregularities in the failure of large and high-profile firms.

Solidarity spokesperson Jaco Kleynhans said the investigation into the true circumstances leading to the collapse of Pamodzi Gold was essential.

"Many thousands of employees and their families were put through an extremely traumatic experience during the liquidation of the group's mines."

Solidarity also welcomed the progress made with payouts to more than 3600 former employees of the President Steyn Mine. - Sapa
