MAMMA MIA COMES TO SA

AFTER a remarkable success worldwide, hit musical Mamma Mia is finally coming to South Africa.

AFTER a remarkable success worldwide, hit musical Mamma Mia is finally coming to South Africa.

It will perform in August in Cape Town and Johannesburg.

Mamma Mia is a wonderful, irresistible story - telling the magic of ABBA's timeless songs. ABBA was one of the best pop groups to come out of Switzerland.

It was made up of four members; Anni-Frid Lyngstad, Björn Ulvaeus, Benny Andersson and Agnetha Fältskog.

The group was active from 1972 and disbanded in 1982 after releasing famous hits that include Knowing Me, Knowing You; Fernando and Mamma Mia.

This enchanting tale of love, laughter and friendship will premiere at Artscape, Cape Town on Sunday, August 15 for a season.

The production then moves to The Teatro at Montecasino in Johannesburg on October 5.

Leading South African concert promoter Attie van Wyk of Big Concerts says: "Mamma Mia is the ultimate feel-good fun musical, which explains why it enjoys enormous global success. We are happy that it is coming to South Africa," Van Wyk says.

Producer of the show, Hazel Feldman, adds: "The enormous worldwide success of the show makes it an irresistible challenge to mount with the quality of performers and musicians we have here in South Africa."

Inspired by the well-loved storybook lyrics of Abba's ever-popular hits, writer Catherine Johnson's sunny, funny tale of family and friendship unfolds on a Greek island paradise.

More than 40 million people around the world have seen the musical and it has grossed more than $2 billion (about R14billion) at the box office worldwide.
