MALI's remarkable comeback against Angola in the first match of the Africa Cup of Nations on Sunday proved once again that in this game nothing is impossible and it it is not over until the final whistle.

MALI's remarkable comeback against Angola in the first match of the Africa Cup of Nations on Sunday proved once again that in this game nothing is impossible and it it is not over until the final whistle.

It also showed what it means to be loyal to one's country. Four goals down, the Malians could easily have accepted defeat without anyone blaming them. But for love of country they fought on and today they are the toast of their country and those who are inspired by gutsy performances in any sphere of life.

Hopefully our players were watching. If players such as Freddie Kanoute, Seydou Keita, Mohamadou Diarra and Mohamed Sissoko, who play for some of the best teams in the world (Sevilla, Barcelona, Real Madrid and Juventus, respectively) can give their all for their land, our local wannabees have no reason to think they are too big or too important to die for the national shirt.
