THE Inkatha Freedom Party is mourning the death of Inkosi Nyanga James Ngubane.

The party stalwart died at St Anne's Hospital in Pietermaritzburg yesterday after an illness related to a stroke.

Ngubane, 65, was admitted last week after collapsing soon after the New Year's celebrations at his home in Bulwer, southern KwaZulu-Natal.

Party secretary general Musa Zondi said it was with extreme sadness that the IFP received the news of the passing away of Ngubane.

"Early last Thursday we received a call from Inkosi's eldest son Fakazi Ngubane informing us of the admission of his father to hospital after his health suddenly deteriorated.

"He will be missed by the entire family of the IFP and particularly by party president Mangosuthu Buthelezi."

Ngubane, who is survived by his wife Sannie Ngubane (née Thugwane), five sons, two daughters and eleven grandchildren, will be laid to rest on Saturday.
