A 46-YEAR-OLD woman was shocked to death by an electrical cable in Butterworth in Eastern Cape, police said on Saturday.

The woman was visiting a friend on Friday evening, Captain Jackson Manatha explained.

As she entered the house she touched a loose cable wire. It was raining and the cable was wet, Manatha said.

The woman suffered an electrical shock and died on the scene.

Police have opened an inquest document.

In a similar incident a cable thief sustained third-degree burns to three limbs, his chest and face in Victory Park in Johannesburg on Friday, ER24 said.

The man was allegedly trying to steal electrical cable.

He was taken to the Helen Joseph Hospital in a critical condition. - Sapa
