MOLATSI George Mokoena will be remembered as an Umkhonto we Sizwe cadre who dedicated his life to his country, but who got nothing for his sacrifice.

Mokoena died on December 16 last year after a long illness. He was living alone in a shack.

He was born on January 10 1942. He went into exile in Angola in 1976.

When Mokoena returned to South Africa in 1991, his family had relocated from Soweto. He had no home so he built a shack in White City Jabavu.

Joshua Nxumalo, an old old friend of Mokoena's, described the Mkhonto we Sizwe veteran as a good man.

"He was a very quiet man, but he was a leader among his friends," said Nxumalo.

Mokoena will be buried tomorrow after a service at the DOCC in Orlando East. The service starts at 10.30am.

He will buried at Avalon Cemetery.
