PSL referees full of praise for seminar

PREMIER Soccer League referees attending a referees' seminar at the University of North West High Performance Institute have described it as a step in the right direction.

PREMIER Soccer League referees attending a referees' seminar at the University of North West High Performance Institute have described it as a step in the right direction.

Abdul Ibrahim said it had been an eye-opening exercise for him. "It was a very important exercise because we were exposed to various things.

"For instance, we had our eyes tested, which has never happened before. That was good and one can only hope that this is done continuously.

"Also, the presence of psychologists has been a big help and hopefully this will not be a once-off exercise," said Ibrahim, adding that it would be in everybody's best interest if referees were made full-time professionals.

The referees have been attending a week-long seminar under English referees' boss Keith Hackett.

"It is important for referees in this country to be absolutely professional and honest, and to achieve that they must be in good physical and mental condition," Hackett said.
