Surprisingly, not a single member of the renegade youth brigade leaders is on the list.
The current NEC of the youth brigade has been acting since July 2008. In December of the same year the annual general conference held in Ulundi failed to elect a new leadership after the senior leadership intervened. Delegates went back home angry they could not elect their own leaders.
Sowetan is in possession of a "confidential" proposed leadership list by the new faction that is busy lobbying to garner support.
Current Sadesmo national spokesperson Mkhuleko Hlengwa is positioned as chairperson. His deputy is Jabulani Sibiya.
Makhosonke Sithole is tipped to take over as general secretary, while Hlengiwe Mthiyane is his deputy and Glenn Cele and Mthokozisi Thusi treasurer and publicity secretary.
Mbokodo Mbatha, Busi Shabalala, Mthokozisi Thusi and Phila Buthelezi are additional members.
One of the people behind drawing up the list has urged members to "campaign and lobby very strongly, across the length and breadth of all youth brigade structures; identify and engage leaders of influence in all structures, branches, constituencies, districts and provinces; contact all candidates by January 15".
They have also called on members to avoid the media.
The next meeting is scheduled for February 13 at a venue still to be confirmed and it is at this meeting that a campaign strategy will be presented.
Acting youth brigade national chairperson Pat Lebenya-Ntanzi expressed amazement about a meeting held in Pietermaritzburg last month.
"I am not aware of either the meeting or the list and neither is the executive aware of it. The date for the elective conference will only be set after the party's elective general conference in April," Lebenya-Ntanzi said.
