TEACHER unions and education officials across the country are hoping for improved matric results today.
SA Democratic Teachers Union general secretary Mugwena Maluleke said they were expecting a slight improvement.
"Even if it does not go up by a big percentage, we'll still be happy. Apart from the paper leaks in Mpumalanga, it was a good year and exams ran smoothly. We are hoping this year will be even better," Maluleke said.
"Plans are in place for the release of results at the Durban ICC this morning," said KZN education department spokesperson Mbali Thusi.
About 140089 full-time and 12400 part-time candidates registered for the 2009 matric exams at 1686 centres in the province.
Sadtu provincial secretary Mbuyiseni Mathonsi said: "We must credit our interventions and strategies made towards the exam results."
Alan Thompson of the National Teachers Union said: "We believe that the results will be a turning point and will give guidance on improvements in the education system."
