Injured baby on the mend

SIBUSISO Moyo, the baby who was injured during the New Year Day celebrations in Hillbrow, Johannesburg, is on the mend.

SIBUSISO Moyo, the baby who was injured during the New Year Day celebrations in Hillbrow, Johannesburg, is on the mend.

Charlotte Maxeke Hospital spokesperson Lungiswa Mvumvu said yesterday: "He had his wounds cleaned and bandaged today.

"He is now in a stable condition and could soon be moved from the high care unit to the normal wards.

"You can never be sure with head injuries but for now doctors believe he will be fine with no lasting damage."

Sibusiso was struck on the head by a brick while on his mother's back as she crossed a street after midnight on New Year's Eve.

He was unconscious when his mother Nomalanga took him to the temporary emergency area at Hillbrow police station.

He was taken to hospital after medics stabilised him and was admitted to the high care unit.

Moyo again spent the day at the hospital yesterday but Sibusiso's aunt told Sowetan that they were coping with the near tragedy and would be fine.
