THE furore surrounding the appointment of SABC group chief executive Solly Mokoetle raged on yesterday, with the IFP calling for a probe into allegations of corruption during his tenure at the broadcaster.

Mokoetle, employed by the SABC in December, was allegedly implicated in fraudulent tender allocations while he was operations officer in 2001.

According to the Sunday Times the SABC commissioning department, which Mokoetle was in charge of, paid R56million to companies involved in "collusive tendering".

He left the SABC in 2006 when he was implicated by the Gobodo investigation.

IFP spokesperson Musa Zondi said Mokoetle's appointment clouded hopes the SABC had put the controversies of recent years behind it.

ANC Youth League spokesperson Floyd Shivambo said: "The interim board is imposing Mokoetle on the new board."
