A Mpumalanga businessman died in hospital yesterday after he was shot by hijackers, police said.

Captain Leonard Hlathi said the incident happened when Stevens Mogane, 58, of Mshadza near Hazyview was parking his new Toyota single cab bakkie late on Saturday. As he alighted from the vehicle he was accosted by two men.

One of them shot Mogane in the neck and the two men then drove off in his bakkie, registration number YFJ009GP.

Mogane, the owner of a Johannesburg construction company, was taken to hospital at Mshdaza, where he died.
