THE Limpopo department of health and social development says it is concerned about an increase in malaria cases in the Vhembe and Mopani districts over the past week.
It said so far more than 80 patients had been treated at various hospitals and clinics\, after complaining about contracting the disease.
Departmental spokesperson Selby Makgotho said 10 patients were treated at the Donald Fraser, nine at Tshilidzini and four in Malamulele hospitals in the Vhembe district at the weekend.
In the Mopani district 36 cases were reported in the east of Giyani and 22 in the BaPhalaborwa areas over the past week alone, he said.
"The department wishes to advise community members that all our facilities are ready and fully equipped to deal with malaria cases," Makgotho said.
He urged communities to "immediately" consult their nearest healthcare facilities for malaria tests if they experienced flu-like symptoms such as body pains, headache as well as fever.
"As the department we will be using gatherings such as community meetings to promote awareness campaigns during this rainy season."
