THE Limpopo department of health and social development says it is concerned about an increase in the number of malaria cases in the Vhembe and Mopani districts over the past week.
The department said so far more than 80 patients had been treated at various hospitals and clinics after they complained of contracting the disease.
Departmental spokesperson Selby Makgotho said 10 patients were treated at the Donald Fraser, nine at Tshilidzini and four in Malamulele hospitals in the Vhembe district at the weekend.
In the Mopani district 36 cases were reported in the east of Giyani and 22 in the BaPhalaborwa areas over the past week alone, he said.
"The department wishes to advise community members that all our facilities are ready and fully equipped to deal with malaria cases," Makgotho said.
He urged people to "immediately" consult their nearest health facilities for malaria tests if they experienced flu-like symptoms such as body pains, headaches and fever.
