Cops warn after hubby kills wife

THE management of Mpumalanga police has urged its members to use the employee health and wellness office to deal with anger, especially during domestic disputes.

This after a Tonga police reservist sergeant shot and killed his wife before turning the gun on himself two days before New Year's Day.

Captain Leonard Hlathi said yesterday that Dumisani Ripinga, 42, a police reservist who was also a teacher at Lambalati Secondary School, had a domestic argument with his wife before shooting her.

He said Ripinga and his wife, Thembi Mahlalela, drove along Masibekela Road near Komatipoort , where they both alighted from the car and continued arguing at about 5pm.

"The husband allegedly produced his privately owned firearm and shot the wife in the right thigh.

"He then tried to shoot himself but the bullet grazed his head. The man again shot his wife in the left breast and in the face," said Hlathi.

He said Mahlalela died on the scene. He said when Ripinga realised he had killed her, he shot himself in the head and died.
