"The maximum deployment of our officers throughout the country has yielded good results," Cele said.
On Friday Cele said 1097 people had been arrested for crimes including murder, robbery and rape in seven provinces.
Mpumalanga and Northern Cape, which Cele had not included in his figures, recorded 234 and 135 arrests, respectively, bringing the total number of arrests to 1466.
Western Cape recorded the highest number of arrests with 263. The province's police also traced and arrested 337 wanted suspects.
About 132 were arrested in Limpopo; 103 in KwaZulu-Natal; 97 in Gauteng; 83 in Free State; 75 in Eastern Cape; seven in North West.
Northern Cape police could not be reached for statistics.
"So far I am quite pleased with the hard work," Cele said.
Security expert Johan Burger said visible policing had been a success in the past but shouldn't be imposed only in the festive season.
"It is true that criminals can be dissuaded by the sight of a police officer from committing crime."
