TWO men were arrested for hijacking a delivery van in Springs, police said.

Captain Johannes Ramphora said the men were arrested soon after they had hijacked a panel van in Nigel Road in Springs at about 1.30pm yesterday.

"They hijacked the van while the driver and a helper were off-loading cigarettes at a liquor store in Selcourt," Ramphora said.

The three robbers drove the van to Ramona Street in Selcourt, where they transferred the cigarettes, worth R350000, to another vehicle.

"While they were busy the driver's helper got away and called the police," Ramphora said.

The Springs police crime prevention unit responded and arrested two of the men. The third suspect ran away. - Sapa
