Swazi champs call 'Mr Fixit'

WELL-travelled South Africa-based soccer coach Walter Rautmann has been sent an SOS by Swaziland champions Mbabane Swallows to coach them during their African Champions League campaign against South African champions SuperSport United in February.

WELL-travelled South Africa-based soccer coach Walter Rautmann has been sent an SOS by Swaziland champions Mbabane Swallows to coach them during their African Champions League campaign against South African champions SuperSport United in February.

Austrian-born Rautmann, known in local coaching circles as "Mr Fixit" for his uncanny ability to save sides from relegation, said yesterday that he was very interested and keen to help the Swaziland champs.

"I was approached initially a month ago and then the Swallows chairperson contacted me before Christmas. I could not accept the job when they first approached me last month as I was involved with Vodacom League side Value Rockets, but that franchise was sold and now I am available," Rautmann said.

"I have agreed in principle to help Swallows on a short-term contract for the African Champions League campaign. After that I will be prepared to renegotiate if they want me to continue."

The first leg of the Swallows vs SuperSport clash will be played in Mbabane on the weekend of February 12-14. The return leg takes place on February 26-28. - Sapa
