Residents spend Xmas without water

DISGRUNTLED residents of Senwamokgope township in Limpopo yesterday invaded the offices of the Greater Letaba municipality in Modjadjiskloof, demanding better services from mayor Godfrey City Modjadji and his councillors.

DISGRUNTLED residents of Senwamokgope township in Limpopo yesterday invaded the offices of the Greater Letaba municipality in Modjadjiskloof, demanding better services from mayor Godfrey City Modjadji and his councillors.

The angry residents at Sekgosese said they were forced to take action after several meetings had failed.

They said their area was proclaimed a township by the former Lebowa Bantustan government in 1958 but had never been serviced like other townships.

Residents said they had spent an entire Christmas weekend without water.

Due to the continued lack of water they were forced to use nearby bushes to relieve themselves.

Senwamokgope Concerned Forum spokesperson Victor Lekitima said the community also wanted the municipality to re-demarcate additional residential sites for their township to cater for grown-up children who needed their own accommodation.

Greater Letaba mayor Godfrey Modjadji said they were trying to repair four of the broken boreholes for the community to get enough water.
