A 75-YEAR-OLD man and his two accomplices have been arrested for allegedly raping an 11-year-old girl repeatedly since the beginning of the month.

The old man allegedly sells traditional beer at his home in Saselani village near Thulamahashe and his accomplices aged 27 and 45 are said to be his patrons.

The child's unemployed mother told police on Monday she noticed her child walking with difficulty on Christmas Day and took her to the local clinic the following day.

Bushbuckridge police spokesperson Inspector Donald Mabasa said the child was taken to a doctor who confirmed she had been raped repeatedly.

"Our investigations have so far revealed that the old man had lured the girl to his home. He usually asked her to sweep his house and then raped her afterwards.

"His two patrons also came in and raped the child."

Mabasa said there was a possibility that the case could be transferred to the Mhala magistrate's court since Saselani village was under its jurisdiction.

Mabasa asked the community to teach children to report rape cases to the police, parents and organisations such as Childline and Child Welfare.

The arrested trio are expected to appear in court today.
