BELGIUM-BASED defensive midfielder Masilo Modubi is back in action with First Division side Westerlo after an ankle injury that sidelined him for five weeks.

This is a timely return for Modubi, with Bafana Bafana coach Carlos Alberto Parreira busy with final preparations for the intensive training camps in Brazil and Germany.

"It's great to be back, I have been training with the rest of the first- team guys for two weeks and the injury has healed," said Modubi yesterday. "I know that I will get my chance to play in an official game. For now I support the technical staff in sticking to the winning combination."

Westerlo are ninth on the log.

The last time Modubi featured for Bafana was during the Confederations Cup, where he was dropped after a hamstring injury.

"It's not been a great year for me when it comes to injuries, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed for 2010 to be the best ever," Modubi said.

"Like any other soccer player, I also want to be part of the 2010 Fifa World Cup, especially considering it will be taking place in my country of birth."

The humble Modubi said he appreciated the support of the Bafana management, who have been communicating with him on a regular basis.

"I always appreciate their calls, which has been motivating me here in Belgium," Modubi said.

Modubi also believes the national squad will do well at the 2010 Fifa World Cup despite going through a bad patch prior to Parreira's return.

"It seems there will be light at the end of the tunnel in the World Cup. When you look at the past World Cup finals, the host countries went on to do well after dismal performances in the build-up to the tournament," he said.

"The same thing will happen in South Africa.

"We are going to surprise many people."
