THIRTY-TWO schools will take part in a soccer tournament in Limpopo aimed at creating awareness of the 2010 Fifa World Cup in the area.
Organised by the Funky Ralethe Foundation, the event will be played in Indermark in Senwabarwana (formerly Bochum) from April 8 to 10.
Funky Ralethe, head of the foundation, said: "The tournament will cater for Under-19s, which is the only difference to the one we staged in Johannesburg last year for the Under-12s.
"Now that we know all the 32 countries that have qualified for the 2010 Fifa World Cup, we want to start educating our learners about all the teams that will participate.
"What we have in mind is that we need to educate our people about everything relating to the World Cup, including urging them to buy tickets.
"Dr Irvin Khoza, the Local Organising Committee chairperson, has called on South Africans to support all the six African countries that have qualified.
"We fully support that call, which is also in line with the pledge by our government that it will be an African 2010 Fifa World Cup.
"We have to show the world that as South Africans we are passionate about soccer by going to the match venues in big numbers.
"It is good Limpopo will also host World Cup matches, which will also help tourism because more than 500000 people are expected in South Africa for the World Cup."
Ralethe, who is the younger brother of Basketball South Africa deputy president Malumbete, has urged parents and guardians in Limpopo to support the tournament.
