High praise for Ntipene soccer showpiece

TOP Safa Limpopo soccer coach Johannes "Fire" Phefadu believes the Ntipene off-season soccer tournament has the potential to help revive the sport in Botlokwa.

TOP Safa Limpopo soccer coach Johannes "Fire" Phefadu believes the Ntipene off-season soccer tournament has the potential to help revive the sport in Botlokwa.

The tournament, which is one of the 2010 World Cup legacy projects, was organised by local resident Lebogang Seshoka.

"What the Seshoka family has done is great and appreciated by all of us who have a passion for soccer development in Botlokwa," Phefadu said.

"Botlokwa is one of the biggest and oldest black residential areas in Limpopo and it is sad that we do not have a semi-professional club.

"This is despite having produced many top soccer players, including Calvin Kadi (Bidvest Wits), Jacob Machaka (Mpumalanga Black Aces), and Thabo Mongalo (SuperSport United) who are playing in the elite division."

Seshoka said the week-long tournament has helped them identify some of the major challenges facing clubs in Botlokwa.

"Our clubs are still running their affairs in an unacceptable way. I could not believe that they don't even have bank accounts so that we could deposit their prizes.

"I told them it will be difficult to get sponsorship if they do not have an audited financial statement. They can't even go to the National Lottery for financial assistance."

Seshoka said they planned to work closely with the Molemole Municipality to get experts in financial management, marketing and branding to help the clubs.

For the record, Sekakene Real Tigers beat Nyakelang Aces 5-4 in the final at Marematlou sports ground on Sunday.
