5 security guards held over robbery

LIMPOPO police have arrested five security guards and a civilian over robberies at two shops in Jane Furse yesterday.

The incident happened at Jane Furse Plaza at about 3am.

Police spokesperson Superintendent Mohale Ramatseba said the five guards were held for questioning and that, and if police found anything connecting the suspects to the incident, they might face charges of robbery or become accessories to the crime.

He said the guards were arrested on the basis that they were on duty at the time of the robberies.

"We have arrested six people, including five security guards, following the robbery at Legit and Pep stores in Jane Furse on Tuesday morning."

Ramatseba said the robbers stole an undisclosed amount of cash in both stores, which they found inside safes, and also stole a number of cellphones.

"The guards will form part of our investigations while we also hope to positively connect the sixth man with the robberies.

"Though we cannot pre-empt as to whether the guards might have had a hand in the robbery, we believe they will assist a great deal in terms of providing information relating to the matter because they were at work at the time of the robberies,"Ramatseba said.

The matter is still being investigated.

l Meanwhile, police have launched a manhunt for a shopkeeper who allegedly stabbed a customer to death during anargument at GaRadingoana village in the Sekhukhune area on Monday night.

The incident happened at about 8pm and the suspect is on the run.

The suspect was working at a tavern when he and the deceased differed over change.

The man allegedly pulled out a panga and stabbed Rabie Malapela in the stomach.

Ramatseba said realising that Malapela's intestines were protruding from the stomach, the suspect fled the scene and had never been seen since then.

Ramatseba added that Malapela, 31, was rushed to Jane Furse Hospital where he was certified dead on arrival.

"We have launched a hunt for the man with the intention to charge him with murder."

Ramatseba has appealed to members of the community to assist the police with information that can lead to the suspect's arrest.

He also warned the public against any violence this festive season.
