THE compact nature of the Absa Premiership season has meant that coaches of struggling teams have been given little time to turn things around.

So far four Premiership clubs - Ajax Cape Town, Maritzburg United, Free State Stars and Mpumalanga Black Aces - have made changes to their coaching staff and by the looks of it other coaches are likely to walk the plank if they fail to deliver in the remaining matches of the campaign.

The Urban Warriors parted ways with fiery Muhsin Ertugral, who was replaced by Dutch coach Foppe de Haan, United brought in former Kaizer Chiefs mentor Ernst "Mazinyo.com" Middendorp after Gordon Igesund left for Stars, while Sammy Troughton was given the boot by Aces and was replaced by Cypriot Aiki Ayiomamidis.

AmaZulu coach Neil Tovey has admitted that this merry-go-round has got him feeling hot under the collar.

Tovey, who is rumoured to be facing the chop after some poor performances by Usuthu, said it was difficult being a coach.

"As a coach your job is always on the line and that is just how it is," said the former Bafana Bafana skipper.

"But I don't get scared of losing my job. I can always get another job, but what happens to the development structures and all the administration people, they will all be affected. I'm glad that our management has been good and we share the same vision."

He joked that there was little to suggest that "we will have a situation where a coach stays at one team for a long time like Sir Alex Ferguson with Manchester United, unless your name is Jomo Sono".

There were also suggestions in some quarters that Sono should fire himself after Jomo Cosmos's dismal display in the top flight.
