HE is the ray of sunshine that invades living rooms every morning to update you about events around the world. Her smile simply dispels all your troubles, making you kick the blankets off and face yet another brand new day.

Forever bubbly, vivacious and exuding life, charming Sindy Mabe presents e.tv's breakfast show Sunrise, talking animatedly about the issues of the day with that sobering, enthralling voice.

Equally fascinating is the rapport between Mabe and co-host Graeme Richards, whose ravishing dimples make girls weak at the knees.

Rather than compete. as is often the case between co-hosts, these two complements each other.

"We tell stories through pictures because we are a visual medium," Mabe says.

"This is made possible by our hard-working and dedicated team of producers. Our task is to put the core of the show together since we are tasked with interpreting the stories for our audience. If my mom, who watches the show religiously, and other viewers do not understand it, Graeme and I then have to work harder to make sure the audience stays tuned in."

That's television - challenging the need to be informed and stay abreast of issues around you and the world.

"Interestingly, people no longer rely on TV and newspapers to remain relevant and knowledgeable about the goings on in the global village," says Mabe as she explains the challenges faced by media all over the world.

Aside from staying on top of the game, Mabe says other challenges include looking like she has stepped out of the pages of a glossy magazine, when in fact she is bone tired.

"Thanks to the wonders of make-up, you look gorgeous, fresh as though you have had a long night's sleep. Believe me, it's so difficult to wake up in the morning," Mabe confesses.

Listing her co-host's virtues, she adds: "I am lucky to work with Graeme. He is a courteous, humble spirit and team player. We work well together. We both are secure in ourselves, so we compliment each other.

"We are not threatened by each other's success. If we competed on air, showing each other up, we would run the risk of alienating our audience," she says.

Mabe is no newcomer to television. She recently left SABC's Weekend Live because of disputes with executive producers.

"Unfortunately when you work in television as a freelance, your stay is determined by how a manager feels about you at a particular time. If he or she does not care about you, then they won't renew your contract. That's how I ended up as a public relations account executive for a while.

"It was such a blessing when e.tv approached me to audition for Sunrise. I was ecstatic after getting the job. I'm doing my best to stay on top of the situation so as to keep our viewers glued to the screen," she says.

Besides a pretty face, Mabe is a businesswoman.

"I lobby corporate video accounts, do voice overs, cast for adverts or simply spend time with my children if I am not socialising with a few industry people," she adds.
