We are back in the Premiership race, says revitalised Vermezovic

KAIZER Chiefs coach Vladimir Vermezovic has changed his tune regarding his club's chances of winning the Absa Premiership title.

He first said his side was out of the race. That was after their 2-0 defeat by defending champions SuperSport United last month.

But Chiefs came back and won against Bidvest Wits, Maritzburg United, Platinum Stars and Ajax Cape Town and those results saw Vermezovic change his tune.

"We are back in the race," he said. But Sundown spoiled the celebrations by beating Chiefs 2-1 last weekend. Now Vermezovic says other teams will do the job for them and the fight for the crown is not over yet.

When Vermezovic arrived at Naturena at the beginning of the season, he was calm and composed. Now he appears to be on edge and this showed when he gave midfielder Abia Nale a tongue-lashing in their match against Lamontville Golden Arrows.

Nale was in tears. It seemed the pressure of coaching a giant club like Chiefs was getting to the Serb. Tonight he will be expected to guide Chiefs to victory against AmaZulu at Loftus. Kickoff is at 7.30pm. AmaZulu have managed to move away from the relegation zone.

Although they are not out of the woods yet, there is optimism that Usuthu can finish the season in a respectable position.

Coach Neil Tovey is hoping for a top eight spot. His side boasts experienced campaigners like Tshweu Mokoro and Ntokozo Sikhakhane.
