Umalusi exam decision soon

UMALUSI will announce on January 4 whether it has approved the 2009 public school matric examinations.

UMALUSI will announce on January 4 whether it has approved the 2009 public school matric examinations.

The spokesman for quality assurance in the general education and training council, Mike Khuboni, said final standardisation meetings would be held on December 28 and 29, after which the announcement would be made.

The council has approved the release of the Adult Basic Education and Training, National Certificate Vocational and the Independent Examination Board exams for 2009.

In a statement on Tuesday Umalusi declared that the standard of and conduct for the exams were consistent with policy and regulation.

It has yet to pronounce on its assessment of public school exams.

"We also monitored all aspects of the conduct of examinations through a comprehensive and integrated monitoring process ranging from self-evaluation by assessment bodies to monitoring and verification visits," Vijayen Naidoo, senior manager of quality assurance of assessment, said.

The council said it was not aware of any serious irregularities with most of those reported being of a technical nature.

Umalusi is a statutory organisation that monitors and improves the quality of general and further education and training in South Africa, according to its website. - Sapa
