IT IS almost a year now since the speaker of the Mbombela municipality, Jimmy Mohlala, was gunned down at his home in KaNyamazane, outside Mbombela.
And despite the fact that there is a R100000 reward for anyone who provides information leading to the arrest and conviction of his killers, police have yet to crack the case.
Mohlala was gunned down in front of his son Tshepiso, 21, whom the killers also shot in the leg on the night of January 4.
His widow Bonny told Sowetan yesterday that she was frustrated, angry and confused at the fact that the killers were still out there somewhere.
"Come on, someone, help us. If you know the killers, please inform the police because if these murderers are not arrested we will not be able to find closure to the matter," she said.
Bonny and her son were once arrested and allegedly assaulted by police who were trying to "squeeze the truth" out of them.
Bonny said she opened a case against the police but no one has told her anything about it.
Just last week Thursday the family lost a television set and a cellphone belonging to Mohlala's other child, Tsholofelo, during a burglary at their house.
"We woke up to find the TV set and cellphone missing from the house.
"Whoever was responsible for the theft mysteriously opened the kitchen window, cut the burglar proofs and entered the house while we were fast asleep.
"We honestly heard nothing that night," she said.
Before the police arrested her and her son, they had initially arrested three men but released them after failing to link them to the crime.
Mohlala blew the whistle on the corruption that was related to the construction of the 2010 Mbombela Stadium.
Mpumalanga police spokesperson Captain Leonard Hlathi confirmed that Mohlala's killers were still at large.
"The R100000 reward still stands, and we want people to know that their information will be treated confidentially."
