KWAZULU-NATAL dancer Enver Moola was crowned king of the dance floor after scooping first prize in this year's Footsteps to Fortune dance competition.
Moola, 22, scooped the award by outclassing 11 other finalists, who gave their all to impress the judges throughout the competition.
He has been dancing professionally for seven years and performs with a gospel dance outfit called God's Most Wanted.
He was the favourite contestant during the competition due to his versatile dance moves, a sensational fusion of freestyle, hip-hop, krump, kwaito and pantsula.
Nicknamed "Captain" by his fellow dancers and judges due to his ability to keep the troops going during rehearsals, Moola admitted that the standard of dancing in the contest was extremely high.
"I remained confident throughout and thought of my chances of winning it.
"I know I have good leadership skills and also know that I have improved from day one in my performances from what the judges have been telling me along the way. I believe that is what made me win."
Moola clinched the grand prize of R15000 in cash, plus sponsored prizes including a Samsung digital camera and a two-gigabyte iPod and shopping vouchers and a hamper from a beverage company, for his hard work
The contestants had an opportunity to polish their skills under the guidance of the judges and dance professionals.
Style guru Kevin Ellis choreographed the final event. He applauded the performers for their hard work.
"I had scheduled a three-day performance preparation but within four hours the kids had known all their dance moves. They stole my heart," he said.
The top 22 in the competition have been entered into the Youth Film Development Project talent pool to be eligible for opportunities in forthcoming music videos, feature films and live productions.
At least 400 dancers from around Durban tried their luck in the event, that was conducted at the city's Suncoast Casino on Wednesday night.
