Followers of classical music will kick off the 2010 musical calendar on a high when violinist, conductor and composer Andre Marie Nicholas Rieu visits the country.

Followers of classical music will kick off the 2010 musical calendar on a high when violinist, conductor and composer Andre Marie Nicholas Rieu visits the country.

The Dutch national will tour South Africa with his Johann Strauss Orchestra and many soloists in April next year. If classical music is your cup of tea, then you don't want to miss this classical giant. Rieu and his team will mesmerise local audiences.

The tour starts at the Sun City Super Bowl in Rustenburg with two performances on April 24 and 25.

The next stop is the International Convention Centre in Durban on April 28. The tour will end in Cape Town at the Grand West Arena with two performances on May 1 and 2.

Rieu is a master and connoisseurs of classical music know that, which is why he has sold about 30million albums globally, has broken all classical concert records and continues to pack stadiums with more than 700000 fans each year.

Rieu is well-known for his exciting and entertaining stage performances. He is a truly-unique performer and it is a great privilege for this country to be hosting him on his first South African tour.

The Johann Strauss Orchestra and its numerous singers will provide audiences with an entertainment experience never witnessed before and which will remain etched in their memories forever.

Rieu comes from a musical family. His father was also a conductor of the famous Maastricht Symphony Orchestra in The Netherlands.

Rieu also established the Maastricht Salon Orchestra and performed as a violinist with the Limburg Symphony Orchestra.

In 1987, Rieu, who learnt to play violin at the tender age of five, assembled the Johann Strauss Orchestra and formed his own production company.
